In the center of Krokslätt Fabriker, the historic industrial area that once formed the core of Mölndal’s textile industry, the new office building The Tailor is planned. The building is designed as a contemporary interpretation of the area’s industrial heritage and architectural character, connecting the former textile industry with present-day architecture.

The building consists of three distinct layers. The base, extending over two floors, has a robust and varied character with brick columns and generous ceiling heights. Above this are five floors with a structured façade, and at the top the building is completed with a reinterpretation of the traditional sawtooth roof, referencing the industrial history of the site.

The façades are clad in brownish red brick from Petersen Tegl, with trowel-scraped mortar joints that give the surfaces a light appearance. The combination of reddish brown tones with lighter elements relates to the façades of the surrounding historic buildings.

The architectural design also incorporates patterns drawn from the area’s industrial buildings. An example is the L-shaped motifs found in the historic architecture, which are reflected in the form of the brick columns at the base of the new building.

The entrance floor has a brick tile floor that meets a core in oak, enclosing the central functions with elevators, stairs, and sanitary facilities. This wooden core continues through all floors and also contains meeting rooms, smaller rooms for individual use, and kitchenettes.

The top floor has a distinctive spatial character beneath the sawtooth roof, with large triangular windows in the longitudinal façades and north-facing windows placed high in the roof structure.

In addition to office space, The Tailor will accommodate co-working areas and ground-floor functions accessible to the public, including a restaurant and retail. For cyclists, a hub with storage, charging facilities, and changing rooms is located in the basement.

The base of the building is designed to adapt to future urban conditions, opening both towards Göteborgsvägen and towards the surrounding area, including the adjacent Safjället. The wider area is expected to undergo development, where Göteborgsvägen will take on the character of an urban street, which will give The Tailor a more central position in the urban structure.

The building is intended both to reference its historical context and to be adaptable to future urban development. Visually, it will form a clear addition to the cityscape of Mölndal.
